CDP News: July 10, 2015

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We missed last week, due to the holiday, so we’ve got plenty to catch up on!

On 1-2 July, we held a training on Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) via Second Life. CPT is one of our most requested events, so we were happy to be able to reach out to an audience who otherwise may not have been able to attend. Next up on our online EBP training scheduled will be a Prolonged Exposure training in Second Life that will be held on 12-13 August. If you’re interested in taking part, you can register and get more information here. If you’d like to be emailed when registration begins for our upcoming online events, you can sign up for our online events email list here.

Registration is also ongoing for our next upcoming CDP Presents webinar, entitled “Women in the Military”. This free webinar will be held on 28 July from 1-2:30 p.m. Eastern. There will be an hour of instruction by Dr. Carin Lefkowitz, followed by a question-and-answer period. Participants who register and attend this event are eligible for one free Continuing Education Unit. We’ve also got recordings of our previous events in the series available for on-demand viewing.

We’re still out on the road doing face-to-face events as well. On Wednesday and Thursday this week, we sent trainers Oxnard, CA as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program. For more details about the SBHP program and the tiers of training, you can head to our SBHP webpage here.

We’ve started ramping up for our next two Regional 1-Week Civilian Training programs. These five-day training events are great for providers looking to enhance and expand their skills in working with a military population. We’ll be headed back to the east coast, after our previous events in the Great Lakes and southwest. We’re still working on finalizing details for these ones, but we hope to open up registration for them in the next couple of weeks. Keep an eye on our webpage, Facebook and Twitter for announcements and details.

Over in the CDP Blog, since we missed last week, we’ve got a couple of blogs to spotlight this time around. First up, last week’s Staff Perspective entry was by Dr. Timothy Rogers.  He takes a look at the tricky topic of modifying evidence-based treatment protocols. It’s a subject that frequently comes up in our workshops. Dr. Rogers discusses some of the acceptable reasons, as well as the potential pitfalls of modifying EBPS. Then this week Chris Adams wrote about some of the various ways that technology is being used to help treat PTSD. Also, don’t forget to take a few minutes to read this week’s Research Update on the CDP’s Blog. It’s got all the latest news, articles and plenty of useful links related to deployment psychology.

That’s it for this time around. Enjoy the weekend and we’ll see you next time around with a new entry in our “By the Numbers” series.
