CDP News: July 8, 2016

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It was a slower week this time around due to the 4th of July holiday on Monday, but we still stayed busy laying the groundwork for upcoming events.

Our next online event will be the monthly CDP Presents webinar on 19 July from noon to 1:30 Eastern. This month’s topic will be “Use of Mobile Applications in Clinical Practice with Service Members and Veterans.” Dr. Erin Frick and Dr. Kevin Holloway will discuss and showcase some of the new mobile apps that are out there for both clinicians and patients. As usual, those who attend the webinar and complete a post-training survey/evaluation will be eligible for one free CE.

Registration is also currently available for the next two multi-day online EBP training events. There will be a training on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) on 20-21 July. Then we will hold a training on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) training on 17-18 August. We’ll be opening up registration for future events soon, so keep an eye on our training calendar or sign up for our online events mailing list.

In the meantime, if you’re looking for the chance to improve your skills and get some free CEs while you’re at it, head over to our Military Culture section. There you’ll find four modules in the Military Culture for Healthcare Professionals course. Each module is worth two CEs upon completion for a total of eight free CEs. It’s a great opportunity to improve your knowledge of military culture, which is vital when working with Service members and Veterans.

This week in the CDP blog, our Staff Perspective column was by Dr. Anthony McCormick, entitled “And, If the EBT is Ineffective? What Then?” Dr. McCormick discusses an important question that doesn’t receive enough attention. What can providers do about the X% of patients for whom their chosen EBT doesn’t help.  It’s definitely worth reading and thinking about. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.

That’s for this week’s edition of CDP News. We hope everyone has a good weekend and manages to stay cool out there! Join us next week for a new entry in our “By the Numbers”section.
