CDP News: June 13, 2014

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Today marks the final day of our Central Plains Regional 1-Week Civilian Training event in St. Louis, MO. It’s been a busy week for all of our staff on the ground and presenters, but we’re used to that by now! The co-ordination and effort it takes to run a week of training events and all of the associated support it takes is quite impressive. It’s well worth the effort when we see the value that participants get from the experience. We’d like to thank everyone involved, from the organizers, to presenters, to participants for helping to make this such a successful event!

If you couldn’t make it to St. Louis this week, but are still interested in attending our 1-week training program, you’re in luck. We’re currently running registration for our next week-long event. It’s scheduled for 15-19 September in Portland, OR. If you’re interested in more information or to sign up, please visit the event page here. Registration is filling up fast, so if you’re interested, we recommend signing up soon. We’ve also got one more event on the schedule for the end of the year. We’ll be headed to Miami, FL 8-12 December to wrap up our training calendar for 2014.

Our next online training session on Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) has reached capacity, but we’re still accepting a few more registrants on the wait list for this program. After the high marks of our last one, we’ll be opening registration for another Prolonged Exposure training via Second Life in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out on our training page for more details on that.

Speaking of upcoming trainings, next Wednesday and Thursday our University Counseling Center Core Competency Extended (UC4-e) will be headed to Virginia Tech to present a training on CPT. We’ll also be in Indiana to deliver training as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program.

Looking back at the CDP’s blog, this week’s Staff Perspective column was by Dr. Holly O’Reilly. In it, she examined PTSD and anger, looking at some of the aspects of anger, as well as providing resources and options for helping to treat it. It’s a very insightful piece and well worth reading, if you haven’t already. Also, worth checking out is this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with the latest journal articles, relevant news and useful links from around the Web.

That’s it for this time around. Have a great weekend everyone and we’ll see you next week!
