CDP News: May 16, 2014

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Our busy training schedule continued this week as we had staff members all across the country delivering various presentations. On Wednesday, we brought our University Counseling Center Core Competency (UC4) program to the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Then on Wednesday and Thursday, CDP Executive Director, Dr. David Riggs, presented at training on Prolonged Exposure Therapy at Northern Illinois University at Dekalb, IL.

That’s not all! We also presentations from our Speakers Bureau in North Dakota and right here in Maryland. The Star Behavioral Health Providers program brought us out to California on Tuesday and out to Indiana on Wednesday and Thursday. That’s not to mention the in-house training events we held this week!

Next week isn’t slowing down much either, as we’ll have another Star presentation out in California and a UC4 event at Widener University in Chester, PA. As you can clearly see, our travel schedule keeps us on our toes here at the CDP. The large demand for training in evidence-based psychotherapies from all across the country (and world!) is one of the main reasons we’re working on using technology to expand the range and breadth of our training opportunities.

This week’s Staff Perspective focused on that very topic. It reviewed the online PE training that we conducted via Second Life. It was a ringing success and we look forward to holding more events in that space in the near future. Don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update as well. It’s packed with the latest journal articles, relevant news and useful links from around the Web.

Finally, we’d like to take a moment to say good-bye to Mr. Marcus Jackson, who left the CDP this week. He served as Executive Assistant to the CDP faculty members and did excellent work. We’ll certainly miss him as he moved on in his career. On a happier note, we’d also like to welcome aboard Dr. Gregory Baima! He joins us as the JIF Champion Consultant at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. Speaking of these comings and goings, be sure and take a look at the new (and existing) career opportunities that we have available at the CDP. Head over to our Jobs section and see what we’ve got!

That’s it for this time around. Have a great weekend everyone and we’ll see you next week!
