CDP News: May 2, 2014

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Next Thursday and Friday, we’re going to be holding our next online Prolonged Exposure training in Second Life. It’s a new venue and avenue for us to present in and we’re really excited to use this virtual world to expand the reach of our training. Judging how quickly the event reached capacity, our participants are pretty excited to take part as well!

Even though this event is full, we’ll be adding more online training sessions to our calendar in the near future. Our next event will be a Cognitive Processing Therapy training on 10-11 July held via Adobe Connect. Keep an eye on our training page for more details and registration information!

This week we’ve also been running our “Topics in Deployment Psychology” for uniformed providers from all branches of the services. As usual, it’s been a bit hectic, but overall the training has gone quite well. We’ve got three more days next week before wrapping up this iteration.

CDP trainers were also presenting for the Star Behavioral Health Program in both Georgia and California. We’ll be headed to Michigan and Indiana next week as well for this program. SBHP is a great opportunity for providers who are interested in working with Service members, Veterans and their families. The program is currently only in Indiana, Michigan, Georgia and California, but hopefully will be expanding to more locations in the near future.

Registration is ongoing for our 1-week regional training in St. Louis, MO 9-13 June. If you’re interested in taking part in this training, head over to the event page to learn more details or to register now! We’re still working to confirm the dates, locations and other details for the remainder of our 2014 training schedule. We’re planning on another training on the west coast in the fall and another on the east coast in early winter, so if you can’t make St. Louis, be sure to keep an eye on our training calendar, as we’ll be posting more opportunities as they’re finalized.

In the blog this week, Dr. Diana Dolan examined what to do when a patient has a shortened treatment window. It can be quite a challenge, but she offers up some helpful suggestions for such a situation in this week’s Staff Perspectives column. Also, don’t forget to take a look at the latest Research Update. It’s packed with interesting journal articles, relevant news and useful links from around the web.

That’s it for this time around. Have a great weekend everyone and we’ll see you next week!
