CDP News: May 30, 2014
Happy Friday and welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. This week was a short one due to the Memorial Day holiday, but we’ve still got plenty to talk about, so let’s get to it! First up, today is the final day to register for the Central Plains Regional 1-Week Civilian training in St. Louis, MO, 9-13 June. It’s shaping up to be a great event and we hope to see you there!
However, if you can’t make it to St. Louis in June, we’ve recently announced the training schedule for the remainder of the year for our 1-week events. We’ll be headed to Portland, OR on the 15-19 of September for our Pacific Northwest Regional 1-Week Civilian Training. Then to wrap-up the year our Southeast Regional 1-Week Training will be held in Miami, FL 8-12 of December. We’ll be opening registration for the Portland event in early June. More details and registration information will be posted in the next few weeks. Registration for the Miami event will most likely begin in September. Keep an eye on our webpage, Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates and details on these events.
As hard as we try, we know we can’t travel to everyone’s home town to provide training in evidence-based psychotherapies. With this in mind, we’re continuing our online training opportunities by offering a two-day workshop on Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) 10-11 July. This event will be held via Adobe Connect teleconferencing software. It will consist of the same training and content that is used in our face-to-face events. This free event will also offer continuing education credits for interested participants. There are only two requirements for attendance. Users must have a working microphone on their computer to facilitate the role-play exercises that are part of the course content. The other requirement is attending an “open-house” using Adobe Connect. For more information, visit the event’s page. We’re working on offering even more online events in the future, so keep an eye on the training calendar!
We’re still doing plenty of training the traditional way as well. Even with an abbreviated week, we still managed to squeeze in two University Counseling Center Core Competency (UC4) events. We were in Baton Rouge, LA at Southern University on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday and Thursday, we headed up to the University at Buffalo in New York for a two-day CPT training. Next up, we’ll be headed to Virginia Tech to present a CPT training on 18-19 June. For more information on the UC4 program or to find out how to bring it to your local college or university, please visit our UC4 section.
That’s all for this time around. Have a great weekend everyone and we’ll see you next week!
