CDP News: Oct. 11, 2013

It’s the end of another workweek and that means it’s time for the latest CDP News entry. As usual, we’ll take a look at the most recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Today marks the final day of our Pacific Southwest Regional 1-Week Civilian Training event in San Diego, CA. It’s been a very successful event for both the attendees and our staff members. We’d like to thank all the participants for attending this event and making it so great.

While it’s been a busy week working on the event in San Diego, we’re also lining things up for the next 1-week training event in Reno, NV 28 October through 1 November. If you’re interested in attending this course, the final day for registration is Sunday, 20 October. Sign up today!

We’ve also recently added another event to our University Counseling Center Core Competency program. We’ll be headed to Sonoma State University in Rhonert Park, CA on 14 November to present the day-long event. This course is designed to help counseling center and university staff better understand and assist student-veterans with their unique concerns. For more information on the program, visit our UC4 section.

It’s with a heavy heart that we have to announce the departure of Mary Schuble, CDP’s Project Manager for Continuing Education and Online Learning Programs. Over the past few years, Mary was a vital part of many programs, both internally and externally. Her relentless drive and enthusiasm for the CDP’s mission will be greatly missed here at headquarters, but we send her off with the best of wishes to all of her future endeavors.  On a brighter note, we’d like to welcome Dr. Jennifer Phillips to the CDP. She joins the team as our Program Evaluator and we’re very glad to have her. Welcome aboard, Jenny!

This week’s Staff Voices featured another snippet of the interview between CDP’s Dr. Augusto Ruiz and Dr. Marvin Podd, Navy Internship Training Director at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. In it, they discuss the additional value that CDP has brought to the program and how it has helped the interns there. It’s a great bit that shows some of the impact of our work here at CDP. Also take a few minutes to check out the Research Update from this week, it’s got plenty of great journal articles, interesting news and relevant links from around the Internet.

That’s it for this week. Hopefully everyone has a great weekend and enjoys the Columbus Day holiday! We’ll see you back here next week!
