CDP News: Oct. 16, 2015

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It was a shortened week due to the holiday on Monday, but we squeezed in plenty of events and we’ve got even more on the horizon!

On Wednesday and Thursday, we visited Augusta, GA as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program. Then next Wednesday and Thursday, we’re headed to Cleveland, OH for another SBHP training. To find out more about this program, please visit the SBHP program page on our website here. Our Speakers Bureau will be presenting at events across the country, literally; as we’ll be at events in both Linthicum, MD and in San Diego, CA next week.

Also in the live training front, if you’ve been holding off on registering, today is the last day to sign up for our next Regional Civilian One-Week Training! It’s going to be held in the Albany, NY-metro area from 26-30 October. This is a great opportunity to get a wide variety of training from CDP staff members. If you can’t make it to this one, but would like to be emailed when registration for future Regional One-Week Civilian Training opportunities, please complete the form here.

In addition to our face-to-face training, we also held some events online this week. On Wednesday, we held this month’s edition of CDP Presents, our monthly webinar series. The topic this time around was “Behavioral Health Concerns in Military Connected Patients: An Overview for Primary Care Providers.” If you missed it, we’ll be posting a recording soon in the CDP Presents section of our website. Next month we’ll be taking a break from our usual program and instead will be supporting the Joining Forces Wellness Week series of webinars. During the week of 9-13 November we’ll be hosting a series of hour-long webinars on a variety of topics regarding the health of Service members and Veterans. Click here for more information or to register.

We also held our first Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) training via Second Life on Thursday and Friday. We were excited to expand our online offerings. It went very well and we look forward to providing even more topics in an online medium. Next up, we be presenting Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia on 5-6 November via Second Life.

Finally, this week in the CDP blog, our Staff Perspective entry was by Dr. Tim Rogers. It’s entitled “Examining Exposure, Relaxation, and Rescription Therapy (EERT) for Nightmares”. Dr. Rogers discusses EERT, provides an overview, takes a look at a recent study of the therapy, and the clinical implications of it. Also, don’t forget to take a few minutes to read this week’s Research Update on the CDP’s Blog. It’s got all the latest news, articles and plenty of useful links related to deployment psychology.

That’s it for now. Have a great weekend everyone. We’ll see you back here on Monday with a new entry in our “By the Numbers” column.
