CDP News: Oct. 18, 2013

It’s Friday, which means it’s time for the latest edition of CDP News! Join us as we take a few moments to review the recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, as well as look ahead to upcoming events. We start this week’s column off on an unfortunate note, our civilian one-week training scheduled for 28 October through 1 November in Reno, NV has been cancelled. However we’ve already got our next 1-week training session on the calendar. The next one-week training is scheduled for 7-11 April, 2014 in the Washington, DC metro area. Keep an eye on our Upcoming Training page, for more information. We hope to see you at a future event!

Despite the loss of one event, we’re charging forward on other training fronts. Our University Counseling Center Core Competency (UC4) program is headed to Auburn University in Alabama on Tuesday, 22 Oct., to present the Service Members and Veterans on Campus training to counselors and university staff there. We’ve also recently added a UC4 even at Sonoma State University in Rhonert Park, CA to the list of upcoming events.

We’ve decided to change the title of our weekly rotating staff-written blog entry from “Staff Voices” to “Staff Perspective”. We’re planning on reserving the previous title of “Staff Voices” for our upcoming podcasts that we’ll be posting to the blog, so keep an eye (or an ear!) out for those. Meanwhile, this week’s Staff Perspective column was by Dr. Holly O’Reilly. She takes a look at CBT-I Coach, a smartphone app designed to support providers in the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia with their patients. These apps are becoming increasingly popular and powerful tools to assist providers in a variety of evidence-based therapies. As always, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update, which has a variety of interesting journal articles, relevant news, and links from around the Web.

That’s all for this week. Have a great weekend and we’ll see you back here on Monday!
