CDP News: Oct. 4, 2013

Happy Friday and welcome to the latest edition of CDP News! As always, we’re going to be taking a look back at recent happenings, as well as upcoming events in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology. Our biggest news is that this Monday, 7 October, we’ll be out in beautiful San Diego, CA presenting a week of training for our “Addressing the Psychological Health of Warriors and Their Families” program. This course is designed for civilian licensed mental health providers who are actively treating military personnel, veterans, and their families or plan to begin treating this population. It addresses a wide variety of deployment-related issues that face Service Members, their family, and even providers themselves.

If you’re interested in this program, but are unable to make it to San Diego next week, we’ve also got another session scheduled for 28 October through 1 November in Reno, Nevada. Registration for that course is ongoing, but will end on 20 October. Space in this program is limited, so if you’d like to attend, sign up today!

We’ve got plenty of other upcoming training events as well. Next Thursday we’ll be bringing our University Counseling Center Core Competency (UC4) program to East Lansing, MI to present to Michigan State University and other area colleges and universities. Then on Friday our Speakers Bureau will be presenting at SUNY New Paltz. To see where else we’ll be in the future, head over to our training schedule page!

If you or someone you know is interested in working for the CDP, head over to our Jobs page. We’ve recently posted several openings for EBP Champion Consultants for locations all across the country, including Texas, California, North Carolina and even Alaska. Go check them out and maybe you could be joining the CDP team!

This week’s Staff Voices was another snippet of an interview between CDP’s Dr. Augusto Ruiz and Dr. Marvin Podd, Training Director at Walter Reed National Medical Center. In it they spend a few minutes talking about the challenges that face providers when treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury. It’s an interesting discussion and well-worth checking out. Don’t forget to take a look at this week’s Research Update as well. It’s got tons of great journal articles, news, and relevant links from all around the Web.

That’s all for this week. Have a great weekend everyone and see you back here on Monday for a brand-new entry in our By the Numbers column!
