The number of U.S. Service members who "have served on 5.4 million deployments" since 9/11, according to a new report from the RAND Corporation -- Examination of Recent Deployment Experience Across the Services and Components.
Some additional findings from the report:
- 86% of those deployed were enlisted personnel
- 10% were women
- On average, more than half of those deployed were under 30 years old
- More than half were married
- About half had children at the time of deployment
