The number of young adults (ages 18-24) who "serve in either the Active Duty or the Reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces," according to a new report from the Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics, America's Young Adults: Special Issue 2014.

Of this total, about 522,000 are on Active Duty, while roughly 244,000 are attached to the Reserves.
