Staff Perspective: New Year, New Training Opportunities!
2016 was a great year for the Center for Deployment Psychology. We held numerous training events, both face-to-face and virtual. We’re looking forward to doing even more in 2017. As we turn the calendar to a brand new year, we’d like to showcase a few of the exciting training opportunities coming up.
First is the new Couples Webinar Series. This series of three webinars is designed to support clinicians who provide couples counseling to military-connected clients. The three topics included are:
- Military and Veteran Couples: Elements of the Assessment Process
- Military and Veteran Couples: Evidence-Based Approaches to Treatment
- An Intervention Model for Working with Military Couples Who Have Experienced Infidelity
Each of the courses is two hours and functions as a stand-alone presentation, so participants can attend as many or as few as they’d like. While the 25 January event has reached capacity, we will be opening registration for the 28 February session, “An Intervention Model for Working with Military Couples Who Have Experienced Infidelity.” If you would like to be notified when registration opens and of future sessions, please complete the form here.
Next up, we’ve got a couple more great online training options. On 18-19 January, we’ll be presenting a training on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia via Second Life. This two-day workshop comes with 15.5 continuing education (CE) credits for a registration fee of $30. 24 January will feature our monthly CDP Presents webinar. This time around we’re partnering with Army One Source to bring you “Using Veteran Peers to Improve Access to Mental Health Services and Support Recovery”. This webinar will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern. Those who attend and complete a brief post-training survey/evaluation will be eligible to receive one free CE credit.
In addition to our online courses, we’re working on finalizing the locations and dates for the 2017 Regional One-Week Civilian Training events. We’ve got a rough schedule, subject to changes, but here are the tentative plans:
Las Vegas, NV – Spring 2017
Philadelphia, PA – Spring/Summer 2017
Dallas, TX – Summer 2017
We’ll be adding additional details and locations to the schedule, so stay tuned. If you would like to be notified of future events, just sign up here.
While summer is a ways off, the 13 January application deadline for the third year of CDP’s Summer Institute: Preparing for a Military Career is rapidly approaching. This five-day course will be held from 19-23 June. It is designed to raise awareness of military psychology careers and to increase students’ competitiveness for military internships. This is a unique opportunity for third- or fourth-year doctoral students in psychology to learn much more about what it means to have a career in military psychology. We’ve had great feedback on this course the previous two years and we’re very excited to hold it again!
These are just a few of the many events we’re looking forward to presenting this year. Keep an eye on our website and/or Facebook page for more training opportunities in the new year!
