The percentage of all 1,604,359 separated OEF/OIF/OND Veterans, from 2002 through 1st Qtr FY 2013, who have obtained health care from the VA, according to the most recent version of the quarterly report -- Analysis of VA Health Care Utilization among Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and Operation New Dawn (OND) Veterans.
Of this 56% (a total of 899,752 veterans) -- 93% were seen by VA health care professionals as outpatients only, while 7% have been hospitalized at least once in a VA health care facility. The three most common diagnoses received by these veterans were musculoskeletal ailments (mostly joint and back problems), mental disorders, and “Symptoms, Signs and Ill-Defined Conditions,” which includes "symptoms and clinical findings that are not coded elsewhere."
