CDP News: Dec. 13, 2013
Welcome to this week’s CDP News! We like to use this space to take a few moments to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Several of our staff members spent all week at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences leading the latest iteration of our Topics in Deployment Psychology course. Today marks the end of the first week of the eight-day long training.
Unfortunately, like most of the rest of the D.C. area, the winter weather at the start of the week gave us some problems. We had a late start on Monday and were forced to cancel Tuesday’s training session. Despite the weather we pressed on and had a great week of training otherwise. We’d like to thank all our participants, staff and guest speakers for working through the bumps to help make this event as successful as it’s been. We’ve got three more days of training next week, so let’s keep it going!
Next week is shaping up to be quite busy around here. Not only do we have our external training, but we’re also bringing in several of our remote staff members, from military treatment facilities around the country, to the CDP headquarters from some internal training. This is all part of our efforts to allow our team members to deliver the highest quality training to civilian and military behavioral health providers.
Speaking of our staff, we’ve recently posted even more open positions to our Jobs page. We’ve got openings at the CDP headquarters in Maryland, as well as positions all across the country. So, if you or someone you know might be interested in working with us, head over to the Jobs section and check out our slate of opportunities!
This week’s Staff Perspectives column was by Dr. Paula Domenici. In it, she examined an article on the parents of Service members and Veterans. These parents are an under-studied, but important group, as they face their own unique challenges in supporting their children, pre-, during and post-deployment. It’s an interesting article on a vital topic. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. As always, it’s packed with lots of great articles, relevant news and useful links from around the Web.
That’s all for this week. We hope everyone makes it through Friday the 13th unscathed! We’ll see you back here next week with a new entry in By the Numbers!
