CDP News: Apr. 18, 2014

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Today is the final day of our 2014 Mid-Atlantic Regional 1-Week Civilian Training event in Washington, D.C. We’d like to thank all of our participants, especially those who traveled from around the country to join us this week. It’s been a very busy week, but we’re always glad to see so many providers eager to learn and enhance their skills.

Next up on our 1-week regional training schedule is the central plains region. We’ll be headed to St. Louis, MO 9-13 June. If you’re interested in taking part in this training, head over to the event page to learn more details or to register now! We’re continuing to confirm the dates, locations and other details for the remainder of our 2014 training schedule, so if you can’t make St. Louis, be sure to keep an eye on our training calendar, as we’ll be posting more opportunities as they’re finalized.

Speaking of upcoming training events, next week our University Counseling Center Core Competency program is headed to Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS next Thursday. Then on 8-9 May, we’ll be holding our first online Prolonged Exposure Therapy training via Second Life. It’s a new challenge, but one that will allow us to vastly expand the reach of our training events to include providers who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend.

If you’re interested in learning more about our online PE training sessions, check out this week’s Staff Perspective blog where we took a look at our recent PE training event held via Adobe Connect.  Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update, which has all kinds of interesting journal articles, relevant news bits and useful links from around the Web.

Finally, we’d like to direct people to take a look (or listen) at our new podcasts page. We’ve been collecting a series of podcasts by CDP staff members on a variety of subjects. It’s your chance to hear our subject matter experts talk about these topics in their own words. They can be listened to via our website or downloaded to your computer for use on a mobile device. As always, if you’ve got any suggestions or ideas for topics, drop us a line and let us know!

That’s it for this time around. Have a great weekend everyone and we’ll see you next week!
