24% to 28%

The increase in the percentage of, respectively, rural and urban veterans receiving psychotherapy from 2007 to 2010, according to an "early view" article just published online in the Journal of Rural Health -- Psychotherapy Utilization Among Rural and Urban Veterans From 2007 to 2010. While rural vets have always been less likely to participate in psychotherapy compared to their urban counterparts, the authors of this article found that this disparity is getting smaller.

Rural and urban veterans are increasingly making use of psychotherapy, and rural-urban gaps in psychotherapy use are shrinking. These improvements suggest that recent VHA efforts to engage rural veterans in care have been successful at reducing differences between rural and urban veterans with respect to access and engagement in psychotherapy.
