CDP News: Apr. 17, 2015
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. This week was our annual All-Staff meeting at the CDP headquarters, where we brought in all of our external staff to work on projects and internal training. We’ve got plenty of great training events coming up and news to talk about however!
Last Friday we opened registration for our next online training, Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapy Training via Second Life, 6-7 May and we’ve already reached capacity on this one. However, for those interested, we do still have a few spots on the waiting list, in case of cancelations. If you’d like to sign up, do it soon as even those spots are going quickly.
If you can’t make it to the PE event, we’ve also got another great offering you may be interested in, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia via Second Life, 4-5 June. This two-day workshop provides training in the assessment and treatment of deployment-related sleep disturbance, with a focus on CBT-I, an evidence-based approach to treating sleep problems. Sleep disturbances are extremely common in Service members and Veterans who have deployed. So if you’re working with, or plan to work with, this population, CBT-I is a great skill set to have at your disposal. This training costs $30 and comes with 13.5 CEUs. It’s going to fill up fast, so if you’d like to attend, be sure and sign up soon!
On a related note, if you’d like to be notified when registration opens for future online events, you can sign up for our online events mailing list here. Once you’re signed up, you’ll automatically be emailed when we open registration for upcoming online training events.
If you’re looking for live, in-person training, you may want to check out our upcoming Great Lakes Regional 1-Week Civilian Training. It will be held in Minneapolis, MN 15-19 June. This extensive course is designed to provide education on deployment-spectrum behavioral health concerns facing the military population. There are two overall tracks, featuring a variety of breakout sessions to choose from. The first track focuses on the treatment of PTSD, while the second is based on health psychology. For more information or to sign up, please visit the event page here.
Over in the CDP Blog, this week’s Staff Perspective entry spotlighted the improved Military Culture: Core Competencies for Healthcare Professionals online course. This self-paced online course is designed to help providers gain an understanding of the importance of and breadth of military culture. Each of the four modules in the course is eligible for two CEU credits upon completion of the final exam. Check out the blog to learn more about the course, as well as some of the recent upgrades we’ve made to it! Finally, don’t forget to take a few minutes to read this week’s Research Update on the CDP’s Blog. It’s got all the latest news, articles and plenty of useful links related to deployment psychology.
That’s it for this week. We hope everyone enjoys the weekend. We’ll see you back here on Monday with a new entry in our By the Numbers column!
