CDP News: Apr. 24, 2015

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. After a break last week, due to our All-Staff meeting, we were back on the road delivering training all over the country.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we headed to Groton, CT to present a suicide prevention talk. Next, on Wednesday and Thursday, we were in Atlanta, GA for a Tier 2 training for the Star Behavioral Health Providers. Then today we’re presenting in Sun Valley, ID at the Idaho Psychological Association convention.   Next week we’ve got several other events as well.  We’re headed to Ann Arbor, MI on Wednesday and Thursday, then Logansport, IN for SBHP programs.  Whew!

Registration for our Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia via Second Life, 4-5 June is going strong. This two-day workshop provides training in the assessment and treatment of deployment-related sleep disturbance, with a focus on CBT-I, an evidence-based approach to treating sleep problems. Sleep disturbances are extremely common in Service members and Veterans who have deployed. So if you’re working with, or plan to work with, this population, CBT-I is a great skillset to have at your disposal. This training costs $30 and comes with 13.5 CEUs. We don’t have many spaces left, so if you’re interested in attending, sign up today!

On a related note, if you’d like to be notified when registration opens for future online events, you can sign up for our online events mailing list here. Once you’re signed up, you’ll automatically be emailed when we open registration for upcoming online training events.

Speaking of upcoming training events, our upcoming Great Lakes Regional 1-Week Civilian Training is a great opportunity for behavioral health providers. It will be held in Minneapolis, MN 15-19 June. This extensive course is designed to provide education on deployment-spectrum behavioral health concerns facing the military population. There are two overall tracks, featuring a variety of breakout sessions to choose from. The first track focuses on the treatment of PTSD, while the second is based on health psychology. For more information or to sign up, please visit the event page here.

Finally, if you haven’t been able to attend our last few quarterly webinars live, we’ve got recordings of both available for on demand viewing here. The videos feature Dr. Paula Domenici’s presentation on Moral Injury from January and Dr. Diana Dolan’s training on the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale for DSM-5 (CAPS-5) from this month. Both of them were very well received and are worth checking out when you have some time to spare.

That’s it for this week. We hope everyone enjoys the weekend. We’ll see you back here on Monday with a new entry in our By the Numbers column!
