CDP News: May 29, 2015
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It was a shortened week due to Memorial Day on Monday, we got plenty in this week and even more coming up.
On Wednesday, we visited Oxnard, CA for another Tier 1 training as a part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers program. Next Wednesday, we’ll be in Savannah, GA for another Tier 1. Visit the SBHP section of our website for more information about the program and the associated training tiers. Next Thursday, we’ll be bringing the University Counseling Center Core Competency program to Brown University in Rhode Island.
Next Thursday and Friday we’ll be presenting our next online training event. This one will be on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and will be via Second Life. These online events have been very popular in the past and fill up quite rapidly. We’ve posted the slate of online training events for the upcoming year on our training calendar here. Registration for these events will open approximately 45 days before the event. The schedule includes training events on Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression, as well as training in Suicide Prevention for a military population. If you’d like to be emailed a reminder when they open, you can sign up for our online events email list here. The next online training available for registration is CPT via Second Life on 1-2 July. If you’re interested in attending, be sure and sign up soon, as there aren’t many spots remaining!
Next, today is the final day to register for our upcoming Great Lakes Regional 1-Week Civilian Training. This five-day training will be held in Minneapolis, MN from 15-19 June. It is designed to provide education for civilian behavioral health providers on deployment-spectrum behavioral health concerns facing the military population. It features the choice of two overall tracks, featuring a variety of breakout sessions to choose from. The first track focuses on the treatment of PTSD, while the second is based on health psychology. For more information or to sign up, please visit the event page here.
Finally, if you’re interested in learning more about military culture, we suggest checking out the four-module Military Culture: Core Competencies for Healthcare Professionals. This self-paced online course is designed to help providers gain an understanding of the importance of and breadth of military culture. Each of the four modules in the course is eligible for two CEU credits upon completion of the final exam. The course can be taken at your own pace and will save your progress within each module.
That’s it for this time around. We’ll see you back here next with a new entry in our “By the Numbers” series to kick-off the month of June!
