CDP News: Dec. 30, 2016
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Before we officially close out this year, we’ve got a couple more things to spotlight.
First off, we’d like to send out a big “Thank you!” to everyone who attended any of CDP’s training events this year. We appreciate everything you do to provide care for this nation’s Service members, Veterans, and their families. CDP is dedicated to our mission of providing high-quality training on evidence-based psychotherapies, but we need all of YOUR help to do that. We pioneered several new training events and topics this year. We’ve got plenty more planned in 2017, but if there’s anything that you would like to see, let us know! You can contact us through our website or via Facebook.
Speaking of 2017, registration is ongoing for our first online training event of 2017. We’ll be holding a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) training on 18-19 January. Registration for the event is $30 and comes with 13.5 CEs. Then on 24 January, we’ll be holding our monthly webinar, CDP Presents. We’ll be partnering with Army One Source to present “Using Veteran Peers to Improve Access to Mental Health Services and Support Recovery.” The event will be held via Adobe Connect from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern. As with most of our CPP Presents events, those who attend and complete a short post-training survey/evaluation will be eligible for one free CE credit. Registration for this event will begin next week.
We’re down to the last two weeks to apply for next year’s The Summer Institute: Preparing for a Military-Focused Career program. This five-day course is intended for psychology doctoral students who are interested in applying for a military internship in 2017 or 2018. It is designed to provide firsthand knowledge of military culture, showcase the work of military psychologists, and some of the evidence-based strategies used to treat Veterans and Service members. Click here for more details about the program. If you’d like to attend, make sure you send in your application before 13 January 2017!
This week in the CDP blog, our Staff Perspective column took a look back at some of the most popular entries from the year, in our “Top 10 of 2016.” It was quite interesting to see what resonated with people. There were as wide variety of topics ranging from military families, to suicide, to resources for providers. They’re all worth reading, so definitely take a minute to see what’s there. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.
That’s all for this week and this year. 2016 has been a great year and we can’t wait to get back to it in the New Year. We hope you’ll join us in 2017 and beyond!
