CDP News: 25 May 2018
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We’re heading into the final week of May and Memorial Day weekend.
On Wednesday, we wrapped up the “Forces for Health: Warrior Wednesday” webinar series with "A Multidisciplinary Approach to the Management of Pain and Opioid Misuse Prevention." Next week, on-demand recording will be available for this one as well as the three other presentations, “Moral Injury: Healing the Spiritual Wounds of War,” “Trauma Informed Care: Empowering Warriors to Promote Recovery,” and “Facilitating a Multi-disciplinary, Culturally-informed Response to Interpersonal Violence and Anger.” The overall goal of the series is to bring healthcare disciplines together to discuss culturally-informed, multi-disciplinary care and wellness for our Armed Forces members and Veterans across the lifespan. Next week is a short week, due to the holiday on Monday. However, we’ve got a couple of face-to-face events as part of our Speakers Bureau on the schedule. On Wednesday and Thursday, we’re headed to Macon, GA to present a training on Prolonged Exposure. Then on Thursday and Friday, we’re headed to Augusta, ME to present a CBT-I training for the Maine National Guard. Our next online EBP event will be Cognitive Processing Therapy via Second Life on 18-19 June. Registration is $45 and comes with 13.5 CEs. In it, she reviews a recent article that summarizes the many and varied deployment cycle challenges and military families face. As always, don’t forget to check out the weekly Research Update.
