CDP News: May 24, 2013

Welcome to Friday and out weekly summary of happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, CDP News. First up, today marks the final day to register for 2013 Midwest Regional 1-Week Civilian Training to be held in Madison, WI June 3-7. This is a great opportunity for behavioral health providers who work with (as well as those who would like to begin working with) Service Members and Veterans to increase their skills. If you’re interested in attending, sign up quick! Registration ends at the close of business today.

However if you can’t make it to Madison this June, but are still interested in the 1-week training program, keep an eye on our civilian training page. We’re in the process of lining up locations and dates for our next few iterations of this event. As soon as these details are finalized, we’ll announce them and open up registration on that page.

Another way to stay informed of all the latest training events and opportunities is to follow the CDP via the social media outlet of your choice. We’ve got accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Linked In. Take a moment to follow us and you’ll be one of the first to know when we sent out news of new training events.

Speaking of upcoming training opportunities, we’ve recently announced a few new events as part of our University Counseling Center Core Competency program. On June 11th, We’ll be visiting Hartford, CT as the Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges hosts us in the Constitution State. We’ll also be headed to Indiana University of Pennsylvania on September 5th to present the UC4 training. Our UC4-Extended program is also keeping us busy! Last week Dr. Holly O’Reilly and Laura Copland (pictured) were down in beautiful Chapel Hill, N.C. to present a two-day session on Cognitive Processing Therapy. There will certainly be more UC4-E events placed on the schedule soon!

Next Wednesday and Thursday, May 29-30, Dr. Paula Domenici will be speaking to the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program in Fredericksburg, VA. She’ll be delivering a presentation on Prolonged Exposure Therapy. For more information on this event or to request a CDP speaker at your organization’s next gathering, please visit our Speakers Bureau page.

This week’s Staff Voices column was by Micah Norgard. He showed off the new challenge coins that have been created for the CDP and talked a little bit about the history and rationale behind the concept of the challenge coin. It’s interesting reading for those who aren’t familiar with the concept. Also, as always, the weekly Research Update had tons of handy and relevant information to check out.

That’s all for now from the CDP. Enjoy this long holiday weekend, be sure and take some time to reflect and appreciate all the Service Members and Veterans whose sacrifices Memorial Day is intended to celebrate. See you next week!
