CDP News: 20 March 2020
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We've got plenty to talk about this week.
We've received several inquiries regarding our upcoming online training events. The CDP is still planning on holding all online training events, as scheduled. We don't anticipate any changes, but we will notify all participants via email as needed. In addition to existing online events, we will be adding more online training events to the schedule. You can read more about CDP's status in our statement here.
Registration opened this week for multiple online events. These include the 26-27 May Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) via Second Life, Assessing Military Clients for Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder via Zoom on 4 June, and the Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) via Zoom on 10-11 June. Space is limited in all of these courses and registration will close once all seats have been filled, even if this is before the final cut-off date. We anticipate all of these courses will reach capacity, so we advise anyone interested in participating to sign up soon!
In addition to the newly-opened courses, registration is ongoing for the June iteration of the online Couples Webinar Series, which will be held on Fridays throughout the month. This series of two-hour webinars has the following topics. Military and Veteran Couples: Elements of the Assessment Process, Military and Veteran Couples: Evidence-Based Approaches to Treatment, Military-Connected Couples: An Intervention Model for Treating Infidelity, and Intimate Partner Violence: An Overview of Assessment and Response with Military-Connected Clients. These courses will be held from 3-5 p.m. Eastern via Zoom. Registration is $10 per course, or $35 for all four courses. Each course also comes with 2 CE credits. Click on the links above or visit our Couples Webinar Series page for more information!
Speaking of webinars, this week we held the latest "CDP Presents" webinar on "Engaging Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Processes to Enhance Resilience in Military Personnel." If you missed it, don't worry! We'll be posting a recording of the presentation for on-demand viewing in our webinar archive next week. As part of the CDP's spotlight on the Month of the Military Child, we will be holding four weekly webinars from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern on Fridays in April. These free 90-minute webinars will focus on topics related to military children. As with most of our CDP Presents webinars, those who attend and complete a post-training evaulation and knowledge check will be eligible for 1.5 continuing education credits. To register for these events or for more information, check out our Upcoming Training Events Calendar.
Reporting on health-related issues continues to emphasis the importance of good sleep to so many aspects of our overall health. Mental health is no exception to this. Dr. Jeff Mann takes a look at this in his Staff Perspective blog entry "The Importance of the Assessment of Sleep Problems During Treatment." Also, don't forget to check out this week's Research Update. As always, it's packed with the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.
With that, we're going to wrap up this week's edition of CDP News. Be sure to follow the CDP on Facebook and Twitter for all the latest info on CDP. There's a lot going on in the world right now and we hope everyone stays safe!
