CDP News: April 12, 2013
It’s time for the latest edition of CDP News, where we round up the latest news and upcoming happenings at the Center for Deployment Psychology. This week we start by congratulating all of the participants of our 2013 South Regional 1-Week Civilian Training in the Oklahoma City metro area. The event wraps up today and it’s been very successful. We hope everyone learned a lot and enjoyed the experience. Our next 1-week training event will be in Madison, WI from June 7-13. Even though we just finished one big event, we’re not slowing down any. On Monday, we kick off the latest iteration of our eight-day training “Topics in Deployment Psychology”. This event is geared for a military audience and is intended to provide an in-depth training on issues from across the deployment spectrum. It’s a lot of work to organize and host, but it’s always well worth it to bring together Service Members, Veterans and behavioral health providers from all branches of the military. There’s always some great discussion and exchanges of knowledge, which makes all the effort well worth it! For more information on this training, visit our military training section.
Speaking of upcoming trainings, our University Counseling Center Core Competency program is headed to Philadelphia on Wednesday to host an event at Drexel University. This is a great program that has been in high demand at colleges and universities around the country. We’re doing our best to visit as many schools as we can. For more information or to request the training at your local higher education institution, visit the UC4 home page.
This week’s Staff Voices column was a very interesting Q&A session between CDP’s Dr. Regina Shillinglaw and Dr. Brent Slife, an expert in Relational Psychology. The two discussed the many difficulties that couple can have in a post-deployment setting. If you missed it, it’s definitely worth a read. Check it out here!This week’s Research Update was also full of great and useful information from around the world of Deployment Psychology.
Finally, just as a quick reminder to those who have taken part in a CDP-led training, we offer a wide variety of consultation services to help providers in the use of evidence-based therapies. Attending the training is only the beginning, we’re here to continue to support providers in as many ways as we can.
