CDP News: 8 February 2019

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We're off to a good start of what is looking to be a very busy February.

We had a couple of events this week. On Monday and Tuesday, we held a Suicide Prevention training via Zoom. Then on Tuesday evening, we began CDP’s Couples Webinar Series, with Military and Veteran Couples: Elements of the Assessment Process. The first in a series of four two-hour webinars, which will be held from 7-9 p.m. Eastern every Tuesday in February. Next Tuesday's session will be “Military and Veteran Couples: Evidence-Based Approaches to Treatment,” followed by on 19 February “An Intervention Model for Working with Military Couples Who Have Experienced Infidelity,” and finally “Intimate Partner Violence: An Overview of Assessment and Response with Military-Connected Clients” on 26 February. While registration is closed for this iteration, we will be presenting another run of all four webinars on 14 May. For more information about any of the webinars, you can visit the CWS page here

Also coming up this month will be our monthly CDP Presents webinar on 20 Febuary. This month's topic will be "Tobacco Control in the Air Force - Trends and Treatment." This 90-minute webinar will discuss how changes in current trends create new challenges for behavioral health clinicians in reducing the burden of tobacco use on readiness and the health of the force. Clinical best practices to increase engagement and tobacco cessation will also be discussed. While you're there, you can also sign up for the 14 March CDP Presents event "The Basics of Sleep: What Every Provider Needs to Know" as well.

Speaking of events coming up in March, registration for the Online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) via Zoom to be held on 28-29 March will be opening next week. Registration is $45 and comes with 13.5 CEs. Please note, the CE policy for this event has been updated.

This week's Staff Perspective is by Dr. Timothy Rogers, entitled "Examining the Relationship Between Exercise and Sleep." In it, Dr. Rogers discusses key findings from literature on exercise and sleep functioning and summarizes the clinical recommendations. Also, don't forget to check out this week's Research Update. As always, it's packed with the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.

One reminder to make sure that you've joined the CDP's monthly email list to stay up-to-date on upcoming training events that we offer. You can sign up by completing the form here. With that, we're going to wrap up this week's edition. Have a great weekend and we'll see everyone on Monday right back here!
