CDP News: Dec. 19, 2014
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We’re heading into the final few days before the holidays and we’re trying to take care of the remaining projects before everyone heads off for the holiday break.
Today is the final day of our Prolonged Exposure Therapy training delivered via Adobe Connect. It’s been a very successful event and we were able to train around 30 providers, who we otherwise may not have been able to reach. If you’re interested in our online training events, keep an eye on our Upcoming Training calendar. We should be opening up registration for our next online event in early January.
Speaking of upcoming events, we’ve got another Regional Civilian 1-Week Training event scheduled for 2015. We’ll be heading to the southwest as we visit Phoenix from 16-20 March. Keep an eye on our Upcoming Training section or the Regional Civilian 1-Week Training page, where we’ll be adding more details about this event soon! If you’d like to be notified when registration for this event opens, you can opt-in by completing the form here.
The CDP has created a new program for those interested in a career in military behavioral health, the CDP Summer Institute: Preparing for a Military-Focused Career. We’re partnering with the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) with this program which is designed to raise awareness of military behavioral health careers and to increase students’ competitiveness for military-focused internships. This six-day training course, held from 8-13 June 2015, will bring participants to D.C. to receive training in a variety of topics. The CDP will assist with costs of travel, room and board. For most attendees, this financial assistance will be sufficient to cover all costs. We also encourage students local to the D.C. area to apply and attend the program. For more information, please visit the program’s page here.
If you’re interested in more information about the CDP’s Summer Institute, check out the CDP’s blog. This week’s Staff Perspective column is by Dr. Holly O’Reilly. She discusses the CDPSI in more detail. She talks about the rationale behind creating the CDPSI, the proposed agenda and other details about this valuable program. Also, don’t forget to take a look at this week’s new Research Update. As always it’s packed with the latest news, articles and useful links and well-worth checking out. This will be the last Research Update until the new year, so enjoy it!
That’s it for this time around. Enjoy the weekend and the holidays! We’ll see you back here next week for a new edition of the By the Numbers column.
