CDP News: Feb. 3, 2017

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. According to the groundhog, we’re in for another additional weeks of winter, but that’s alright, we’ll be keeping busy!

Registration is up and running for the first Regional Civilian One-Week Training of 2017! It will run from 13-17 March in the Las Vegas-metro area. This is the perfect chance for civilian behavioral health providers interested in working with a military population, or those who already do, to add to their skills and knowledge. This training also includes over 31.5 hours of available continuing education credit, as well. If you can’t make it to this session in Nevada, we’re in the process of lining up the dates and details for additional iterations of the One Week Training program in 2017. You can opt-in for more information about these upcoming iterations by completing the form here.

If you’re looking for training opportunities closer to home, we’ve got several online training events coming up. February’s CDP Presents webinar is entitled “Chicken & Eggs: Treatment Order in Cases of Co-Morbid PTSD and Insomnia.” This presentation will be held 21 February, from noon to 1:30 p.m. eastern. As with most of our CPP Presents events, those who attend and complete a short post-training survey/evaluation will be eligible for one free CE credit. Then on 22-23 February, we’ll be holding a Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) training via Second Life. Registration for this is scheduled to close on the 15th of this month, but may close earlier if it reaches capacity. So if you’re interested in attending, sign up today! Then coming up on 22 March, we’ll be presenting an online suicide prevention training. Registration for that event will open next week. If you would like to be notified via email when registration for this and other online events begins, just complete the form here. If there are other training topics, you’d like to see, please let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

This week in the CDP blog, we had a couple of really great entries. First up, LTC Clark Adams wrote about the difficult choice troops face in combat and the lasting impact they can have. Read his powerful piece, “When There Is No ‘Right’ Choice” here. Then one of CDP’s CPT subject matter experts, Dr. Andy Santanello, took a look at the new CPT manual. Read about the new features of the manual and changes to CPT in general. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.

That’s all for this time around. We’ll see you next week for another round of great content. If you’re not already, stay up to date on all things CDP by following us on Facebook, Twitter, and/or LinkedIn.
