CDP News: Jan 3, 2014

Welcome to 2014 and the new year’s first edition of CDP News! We usually use this space to review the recent news in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, but since the holidays have slowed things down all around, we thought we’d try something a little different this time. We’re going to take a quick look back a few of the highlights of 2013 instead.

The first item is one you’re already looking at. In August of this year, we launched a brand new version of deploymentpsych.org. It’s been a major change and has allowed us to do much more online, including new e-learning opportunities, webinars and podcasts, electronic registration for our training events and much more. We’re hoping to continue to expand in all of these areas in the upcoming year, so be sure and keep an eye on our site.

In addition to growing our online presence, the CDP grew in real life as well. While we had to say good-bye to some great individuals, we hired several new personnel, both at our headquarters in Maryland, as well as in locations across the country. (We’ve got more opportunities available as well. Check out our Jobs page for a list of currently open positions!) These individuals will allow us to continue, expand and enhance our mission of providing high-quality training to military and civilian behavioral health providers.

This can already be seen in many places and programs. Our Speakers Bureau program had a very busy year, with us sending speakers to numerous organizations across the country. The University Counseling Center Core Competency (UC4) program added an extended, two-day version, the UC4e, which focuses on teaching attendees an evidence-based therapy, such as Prolonged Exposure Therapy or Cognitive Processing Therapy. The Star Behavioral Health Providers program, which CDP supports, has continued to expand to new states, with even more on the horizon in 2014. CDP staff have also taken part in several webinars on various subjects, such as Dr. Bill Brim’s talk on common sleep disorders in Service members and Dr. Paula Domenici’s discussion on supporting the parents of Service members.

Overall, it’s been a great year for the CDP and its mission. We’ve been very successful in many areas, but we’re going to continue to work hard to ensure that 2014 is even better!
