CDP News: June 10, 2016
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. June is shaping up to be another busy month around here. Let’s take a look at what we were up to this week.
We spent this week holding our annual event, The Summer Institute: Preparing for a Military-Focused Career. We brought in doctoral students interested in applying for military internships from around the country to offer them training on military culture, the work of military psychologists, and evidence-based strategies to treat military members. It’s our second year offering this event, which is designed to help educate students about a career as a military psychologist. Next week we’ll be headed to Columbus, OH for our Regional Civilian One-Week training event. If you missed advanced registration, there are still a few spots remaining. If you’re interested in attending, please contact Chris Myers for more information. However, if you can’t make it to this session, don’t worry! We’ve still got a couple more iterations of this event before the end of the year. We’re still working on finalizing the details, dates and locations for the remaining sessions. That’s not all we’ve got going on next week either. On Wednesday and Thursday, we’ll be bringing our suicide prevention training to New York City for the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program. Then on Thursday and Friday, CDP instructors will be in Tallahassee, FL as part of our University Counseling Center Core Competency Extended (UC4-E) program. They’ll be presenting a training on Prolonged Exposure Therapy. Also on Thursday and Friday, our Speakers Bureau program will present on Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for Mass General in Boston, MA. Speaking of CPT training, registration is still available for our next online training on 22-23 June. We’ve also just opened up sign-ups for our 20-21 July training on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression. Finally, don’t forget to sign up for the upcoming CDP Presents webinar, entitled “Reconceptualizing Resilience and Growth in the Wake of Trauma”, which will be held 21 June at noon Eastern.
This week in the CDP blog, our Staff Perspective entry spotlighted the fact that June is PTSD Awareness Month. We try to increase awareness of PTST year-round, but this month provides a special opportunity to educate and inform the public. The blog offered some links to great resources to help spread the word. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.
