CDP News: June 20, 2014
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It’s been a busy week, full of training events all across the country. Next week looks like it’s going to be more of the same as we continue the CDP’s mission of offering high-quality training on evidence-based therapies to civilian and military behavioral health providers.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the University Counseling Center Core Competency (UC4) program was at Virginia Tech for a two-day session on Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Even though summer is rapidly approaching, we’ve got lots more UC4 events coming up at colleges and universities. Next Tuesday we’ll be headed Pepperdine University out in California. Then on Thursday, we’ll be visiting Central New Mexico Community College in Albuquerque. For more information about the UC4 program, or to learn how to bring it to your local college or university, please visit the UC4 section of our website.
CDP staff members were also out in Indiana on Wednesday and Thursday to present on deployment-related sleep disturbances as part of the Tier 3 training for the Star Behavioral Health Providers program. We’ll also be at two more SBHP events, one in Georgia and another in California, next week.
Speaking of upcoming training events, registration for our Pacific Northwest Regional 1-Week Civilian training event is going strong. The event is scheduled for 15-19 of September in Portland, OR. If you’re interested in attending or for more information, please visit the event page here.
Our upcoming online CPT workshop has reached capacity and we’ve closed registration. However, we’ll be holding more online training events in the near future, including training on Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and group CPT (CPT-G). Keep an eye on our training calendar, Facebook and Twitter pages for the latest news on these upcoming events.
Next up, on a sad note, this week we have to say good-bye to Deirdre McGlynn, who is leaving the CDP. She’s been a valuable member of our online team, serving as the eLearning Developer. We’re going to miss her around here and we wish her the best of luck going forward!
This week’s Staff Perspective highlighted the fact that June is National PTSD Month. The column offered links to some of the many useful and informative organizations that are out there. For even more useful information, be sure and check out this week’s Research Update. It’s got all the latest journal articles, relevant news and handy links from around the Web.
That’s it for this time around. Have a great weekend everyone and we’ll see you next week!
