CDP News: Mar. 11, 2016

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. The next couple of weeks have lots of notable events to look forward to!

On Tuesday, we presented an online training on Cognitive Processing Therapy for Group (CPT-G) via Adobe Connect. Then Wednesday and Thursday, we visited Savannah, GA to present a training as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program. For more information on this program or to find out how you can participate, head over to the SBHP section of our website.

Next up, the Military and Veteran Behavioral Health Post-Master’s Certificate Program begins this weekend and continues over the weekends of 1-2 April and 22-23 April. The 10 training sessions cover a variety of topics designed to address the emotional and psychological struggles of Service members and Veterans. Those who complete the training will receive a certificate directly from Widener University. Today is the final day to register, so if you’re interested please click here.

Registration for the upcoming Regional Civilian One-Week Training to be held 4-8 April in Des Moines, IA is filling up. We expect this event to sell out soon, so if you would like to attend, we suggest signing up fast. If you can’t make it to this event, we’ll also be bringing our One-Week event to Boise, ID 16-20 May and Columbus, OH 13-17 June. Click on the dates to be notified via email when registration opens for these events.

Coming up on Tuesday from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Eastern, we’ll be hosting our monthly CDP Presents webinar. The topic this time around will be “Psychological Consequences of Brain Injury and Implications for Treatment in Service Members and Veterans.” Guest speakers Dr. Johanna Wolf and Dr. Jenelle Anthony will provide a military-focused look at traumatic brain injuries and how they impact care of Service members and Veterans. You can register to attend this webinar here.

On the subject of brain injury, we used this week’s Staff Perspective to spotlight the fact that March is Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness month. We examined some of the resources available on the CDP site and around the web. The Guest Perspective blog, “Moral Injury and the Need for Innovative Treatment”, was by Dr. Shira Maguen. Dr. Maguen continues our recent examination on the topic of moral injury. Also, don’t forget to check out the Research Update as usual, it’s got all the latest news, articles, and useful links related to deployment psychology.

That’s all for this time around. Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead this weekend. Come back next week for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” feature!
