CDP News: May 22, 2015

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Before we wrap things up and head into this Memorial Day weekend, we’ve got plenty to talk about.

On Wednesday and Thursday, we visited Hill AFB in Utah for a Prolonged Exposure Therapy training. Also on Wednesday, we were in Akron, OH for a Tier 1 training as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers program. Next Wednesday, we’ll be headed to Oxnard, CA for another Tier 1 session.

Next up, we’re down to the final week to register for our upcoming Great Lakes Regional 1-Week Civilian Training. This five-day training will be held in Minneapolis, MN from 15-19 June. It is designed to provide education for civilian behavioral health providers on deployment-spectrum behavioral health concerns facing the military population. It features the choice of two overall tracks, featuring a variety of breakout sessions to choose from. The first track focuses on the treatment of PTSD, while the second is based on health psychology. For more information or to sign up, please visit the event page here.

If you’re unable to travel, but are still interested in attending CDP’s training, our online events may be worth checking out. We offer two-day, online training in multiple different evidence-based psychotherapies, including Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression, as well as training in Suicide Prevention for a military population.

The next online training available for registration is CPT via Second Life on 1-2 July. If you’re interested in attending, be sure and sign up soon, as these courses do fill up rapidly. For a schedule of all our upcoming online events, visit our Training Calendar. While registration for most of these events hasn’t begun, if you’d like to be notified when they open, you can sign up for our online events email list here.

Finally, May is Military Appreciation Month. If you’re interested in learning more about military culture, we suggest checking out the four-module Military Culture: Core Competencies for Healthcare Professionals. This self-paced online course is designed to help providers gain an understanding of the importance of and breadth of military culture. Each of the four modules in the course is eligible for two CEU credits upon completion of the final exam.

That’s it for this time around. This holiday weekend we encourage everyone to spend some time in remembrance of the Service members and Veterans who have served our country. We’ll see you back here next week.
