CDP News: May 23, 2014

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Everyone’s ready for the long holiday weekend, but first we’ve got to look at the week that was and what we’ve got coming up after the holiday as well.

On Wednesday, the University Counseling Center Core Competency (UC4) program was at Widener University in Chester, PA. Even though summer is rapidly approaching, we’ve got lots more UC4 events coming up at colleges and universities. Next Tuesday we’ll be headed to Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA. Then on Wednesday and Thursday, we’re headed way up north to the State University of New York at Buffalo for a two-day training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) as part of the UC4-extended program. We’ve got a couple more schools on the calendar for June, including Virginia Tech, Pepperdine University and Central New Mexico Community College. For more information about the UC4 program, or to learn how to bring it to your local college or university, please visit the UC4 section of our website.

CDP staff members were also out in Sacramento, CA on Wednesday and Thursday to present the Tier 3 training for the Star Behavioral Health Providers program. We’ll also be at two more SBHP events in California next week.

Speaking of upcoming training events, next Friday, 30 May, will be the final day to register for our Central Plains Regional 1-Week Civilian Training. The training will be held 9-13 June in St. Louis, MO. If you’re interested in attending, be sure and sign up soon! However, if those dates or location doesn’t work for you, we’ve recently finalized our Pacific Northwest Regional 1-Week Civilian training event. We’re pleased to announce that we’ll be headed to Portland, OR 15-19 of September. Registration for this event will be opening in early June, so keep an eye on our webpage, Facebook and Twitter pages for the latest updates and details.

Next up, we have to say good-bye to Dr. Michelle Cornette, who is leaving the CDP. She’s been a valuable asset and a great co-worker. Everyone here at CDP headquarters is going to miss her and we wish her the best of luck in all of her future endeavors! On a somewhat related note, we’d like to officially welcome Dr. Erin Frick to the CDP team. She joins us as the JIF Champion Consultant at Travis Air Force Base. Welcome aboard, Erin! If you or someone you know is interested in working at the CDP, head on over to our Jobs section and check out the career opportunities we’ve currently got available.

Finally, as we head into the weekend, be sure and take some time to reflect upon the reason for Memorial Day, the brave men and women of the Armed Forces and the sacrifices they continue to make to protect this great nation and its citizens.  That’s it for this time around. Have a great weekend everyone and we’ll see you next week!
