CDP News: May 5, 2017

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It’s looking like May is going to be another busy month with lots of great events going on.

First up, we recently created a new section to spotlight our virtual provider training efforts in Second Life. Many people are unfamiliar with Second Life, so we put together a collection of information, resources, and videos to help orientate people to the virtual environment. In addition to the CDP’s virtual learning center, where our training takes place, you can learn about the CDP’s Museum of Sleep Assessment & Treatment and virtual PTSD Learning Center.  It’s a great way to learn about Second Life before attending a training there.

Speaking of online training, we’ve updated our online training calendar and added several new events coming up for the rest of 2017 and into 2018. Head over and take a look at our upcoming training opportunities! There are a few days left to sign up for our next two-day EBP training in Second Life, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) training on 17-18 May. Registration is also available for our online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) training on 14-15 June. If you’d like to be notified via email when registration for this and future online training events begins, please complete the form here.

We also added a plug for the Veterans Affairs’ Clinical Resources page. It’s a page full of useful Veteran-related clinical resources on topics including PTSD, suicide prevention, depression, and many more. Take a look when you have the chance.

Don’t forget to sign up for our next CDP Presents webinar, “Working With LGBT Service Members”. This webinar will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m on 23 May. As with most of our CDP Presents events, everyone who registers, attends, and completes a brief post-training survey/evaluation will be eligible to receive one free CE. A recording of April’s event, along with all of our previous CDP Presents webinars, is available for on-demand viewing as well.

This week in the CDP Blog, Dr. Marjorie Weinstock took a look at the results of the RAND Deployment Life Study, a longitudinal study examining family readiness across the deployment cycle. The study measured marital satisfaction, family functioning, child and teen well-being, and psychological/behavioral health.  Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.

That’s all for this time around. We hope everyone has a great weekend and rejoins us right back here on Monday for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” column.
