CDP News: Nov. 7, 2014

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It’s been a busy couple of weeks and we’ve got plenty more things coming up this month as well.

First up, the CDP Is very proud to be a part of Joining Forces Wellness Week 2014. During the week of 10-14 November we will be hosting a series of webinars from 12 to 1 p.m. EST each day. These webinars will focus on a variety military behavioral health issues. For a list of all of the topics and presenters or to register, please click here.

Last Friday our University Counseling Center Core Competency program visited the University of Baltimore to deliver the UC4 presentation. We also integrated a new facet into the event when we broadcast the morning portion of the training via Adobe Connect to several providers joining us from various location in Montana. This pilot program is part of CDP’s continuing effort to leverage technology to expand the reach, types and amounts of training events we can offer to behavioral health providers across the country and world. We learned a lot from the experience and have received some positive feedback from those who attended online. So we hope to do more events like this going forward. If you’d like more information about this or the UC4 program in general, head over to the UC4 section of our website.

Speaking of online training, due to the strong demand from our last online PE training, we’ve scheduled another event for 18-19 December. As with the previous event, this two-day event will be held via Adobe Connect. Participants will not have to install any software on their computer. They are required to purchase a copy of the PE manual and ensure they have a working microphone to participate in the role-play portions of the training. Registration is $27 and comes with 13.5 CEUs. After transferring over the wait list from the October event, there are only a few available spots remaining for this training, so if you’re interested, we recommend signing up quickly.

Also, coming up in December our Southeast Regional Civilian 1-Week Training will be held 8-12 December in Miami, FL. We’re down to the last few weeks to sign up. Check out the event’s page for more details or to register.

Don’t forget to read this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with the latest in news, journal articles and useful links from all around the Web.

That’s it for this time around. We hope everyone gets out and enjoys the weekend! We’ll see you back here next week before the holiday for a new entry in the By the Numbers column.
