CDP News: Oct. 30, 2015
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Last week was a busy week and it looks like we’ve got another one coming up!
First off, we held two different week-long training events this week. We presented the latest iteration of the Topics in Military & Deployment Psychology course at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences campus in Bethesda, MD. Then we also be brought the Regional One-Week Civilian Training program to the Albany, NY-metro area all week. It’s a lot of work to hold multiple large-scale events like this at the same time, but when they go off as well as they have this week, it’s all worth it! If you would like to be emailed when registration opens for future Regional One-Week Civilian Training opportunities, please complete the form here.
If that wasn’t enough, we also presented in Traverse City, MI on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as Atlanta, GA on Thursday and Friday as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program. Next week, we’re headed to Grayling, MI for our next SBHP training event. To find out more about this program, please visit the SBHP program page on our website here.
Speaking of upcoming events, we’ll be holding our next online training event, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia on 5-6 November via Second Life. Registration for that event has closed. However, registration for our December online training, Prolonged Exposure Therapy via Second Life is currently ongoing. This training will take place on 15-16 December.
Speaking of upcoming online events, the CDP is proud to once again support the Joining Forces Initiative’s Wellness Week. During the week of 9-13 November we’ll be hosting a series of hour-long webinars on a variety of topics regarding the health of Service members and Veterans. For the specific topics for each day or to register, please click here.
Finally, this week in the CDP blog, our Staff Perspective entry was by Dr. Diana Bartle. Her piece was a review of the book “Redeployment” by Phil Klay. This award-winning collection of short stories displays the effects of deployment and war upon soldiers. It’s a great book for those who work with Service members and Veterans or those who just want a better understanding of them. Also, don’t forget to take a few minutes to read this week’s Research Update on the CDP’s Blog. It’s got all the latest news, articles and plenty of useful links related to deployment psychology.
That’s all for now. Don’t forget to change your clocks this weekend and join us on Monday for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” column.
