CDP News: Sept. 16, 2016

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. As we get closer to the official end of summer our event calendar is getting busier and busier.

On Wednesday and Thursday we held a training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) via Second Life. We’d like to thank all the participants for helping to make this another great online event. That’s not all we’ve got in the virtual world. We’ll be presenting another training in Second Life on Tuesday and Wednesday. The topic this time around will be Prolonged Exposure (PE) training. Registration is closed for this PE training, but registration is currently available for our next online suicide prevention training on 12-13 October. We’re always adding new events to our training calendar. If you want to make sure you’re up-to-date on all of our latest events, you can sign up to be emailed when registration begins for our online events by completing the form here.

Next week will also feature the latest CDP Presents webinar. On Wednesday, from noon to 1:30 p.m., Dr. Craig Bryan will deliver a webinar on “Brief Interventions for Suicidal Military Personnel and Veterans”.  As with most CDP Presents events, those who attend the webinar and complete a short post-training survey/evaluation will be eligible to receive one free Continuing Education (CE) credit.

We’ve also got some great options for face-to-face training events. The Rocky Mountain Regional Civilian 1-Week Training program is headed to Denver, CO from 24-28 October. This five-day event covers a variety of topics relevant to Veterans and Service members. This training is the perfect opportunity for those interested in working with a military population or for anyone looking to increase their skills. Registration for this event is $95 and comes with 34 CE credits. Visit the event page for more information about this event, including the agenda, CE details, hotel info and more. If you can’t make it out to Denver, we’ll also be headed to Charleston, SC in early December.  We’ll be posting additional details regarding the Charleston event soon!

This week in the CDP blog, our Staff Perspective column was by Dr. Jenna Ermold entitled “The Treatment Rationale – Blueprints of Psychotherapy”. Dr. Ermold examines the importance of providers being able to confidently and effectively explain the details of their evidence-based therapy of choice. It’s well worth taking a few minutes to read, if you haven’t already. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.

That’s all for this week. Get out there and enjoy the last official weekend of summer! We’ll see everyone right back here on Monday for another entry in our “By the Numbers” column.
