"(T)he lifetime prevalence of any headache disorder" (worldwide), according to a recent article in the journal Military Medicine -- The Primary Care Management of Headache: Synopsis of the 2020 U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and U.S. Department of Defense Clinical Practice Guideline.

Headache disorders are common and impose a heavy burden on the people living with them. Headache commonly affects people during their most productive years (aged 25-55), and it is more prevalent among women of reproductive age and those of lower socioeconomic status. People living with headache are also more likely to develop depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbances, which complicates their management and impairs their quality of life. Headache is the second leading cause of years lived with disability across all age groups, trailing only low back pain. In fact, more disability-adjusted life years are attributable to headache than all other neurological disorders combined.

Tension-type headache (TTH), migraine, and medication overuse headache (MOH) are the most common headache disorders. Ten percent of people living with headache experience more than one type of headache attack per week, and 3% report having some type of headache on a daily basis. Within the United States, the prevalence of self-reported migraine and/or severe headache is higher among women (15-18%) than among men (6-10%). Half of women and men experience TTH.
