The percentages, respectively, of male and female active component U.S. Coast Guard members (39,000) who "experienced one or more sexual assaults in the past year," according to a new RAND Corporation report -- Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment in the U.S. Military:  Volume 3. Estimates for Coast Guard Service Members from the 2014 RAND Military Workplace Study. This includes assaults by other service members (77% of female victims), family members, civilians or "others."

According to RAND, 6% of active duty Coast Guard members reported "some form of sexual harassment in the past year," and 30% of female Coast Guard sexual assault victims reported that they had previous been harassed by their assailants, an indication that "(s)exual harassment and gender discrimination are strongly associated with sexual assault."

According to the report:

The prevalence of sexual assault is significantly lower for men and women in the Coast Guard compared to the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps, even after controlling for demographic and other differences, but similar to that of the Air Force.

And according to a news release about the report:

The rate of sexual assault against Coast Guard men was so low that even with the study's large sample size, too few victims were identified to reliably characterize assaults against men.
