The number of Veterans who were homeless on a single night in 2012, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Administration's 2012 Point-in-Time Estimates of Homelessness report. According to the report, "Homelessness among veterans has declined by 7.2 percent since 2011 and by 17.2 percent since 2009."
Last week, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that "25 projects in 11 different states will share approximately $4.9 million in grants to provide enhanced services for homeless Veterans this year." Since 1994, the VA has been partnering with local community service agencies to provide a "continuum of care" for homeless Veterans. This program -- Project CHALENG (Community Homelessness Assessment, Local Education and Networking Groups) -- is currently conducting its 2013 survey on Veteran homelessness. Veterans, VA staff and "Community Partners" are encouraged to participate.
