CDP News: May 3, 2013

Welcome to Friday, the end of another work week and the latest edition of CDP News. As always, we’re taking a look back at the past week as well as future events around the Center for Deployment Psychology. For upcoming trainings, our University Counseling Center Core Competency Extended (UC4-E) program will be visiting Columbus, OH to present Prolonged Exposure Therapy training at The Ohio State University on Wednesday and Thursday, May 8-9. This follow-up training is designed to build upon the instructional foundations that are laid during our standard UC4 course. The two-day session teaches attendees about of the use of specific evidence-based therapies, either Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).

The following week, May 15-16, the UC4-E program will be headed to the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill for a CPT training session. We’ve also recently added locations in Hartford, CT and Madison, WI for our base UC4 course.

Speaking of Madison, registration continues for our one week training course to be held there from June 3-7. This course is a valuable opportunity for behavioral health providers to learn about a wide variety of deployment –related issues facing Service Members, Veterans and their families. We’re also hard at work on finalizing the details and locations of future iterations of this week-long training. Keep an eye on our civilian training page, Facebook or Twitter to stay up to date on training opportunities that maybe coming to your town.

We’d like to take a moment to welcome the newest member of the CDP team, Dr. Jeff Cook. Dr. Cook is joining us as our new Director of Military Training Programs. Welcome aboard!

Finally, if you missed it, take a few minutes to read this week’s Staff Voices column by Dr. Elizabeth Parins. She takes a personal look at how the rigors of life can overwhelm even the best efforts at provider self-care and why self-care is so vital. The latest Research Update is also full of interesting articles and information from around the web. Check them both out!

That all for now. Have a good weekend and we’ll see you back here on Monday with a brand new By the Numbers entry.
