CDP News: Feb. 26, 2016
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We’ve got plenty of exciting training opportunities coming soon!
Unfortunately, we’ve had to close registration for our upcoming Regional Civilian One-Week Training 21-25 March, in Long Beach, CA. We’ve got an extensive waiting list for this event, so we’re unable to add any additional participants. However, if we still have plenty of room in our 4-8 April in Des Moines, IA. To sign up or get more info on this event, click here. We’re working to finalize details and locations for the One-Week events for the remainder of this year. Once we’ve confirmed those dates and locations we will post the information to our website here. If you would like to be notified via email when registration begins for these events, please complete this form.
11 March is the final day to sign up for the Military and Veteran Behavioral Health Post-Master’s Certificate Program. This event is held over three weekends in conjunction with Widener University in Exton, PA. The 10 training sessions cover a variety of topics designed to address the emotional and psychological struggles of Service members and Veterans. Those who complete the training will receive a certificate directly from Widener University. For more information or to register for this event, please click here.
Registration for the next online CDP Presents webinar, “Psychological Consequences of Brain Injury and Implication for Treatment in Service Members and Veterans,” is currently available here. This training will be presented by guest speakers Dr. Johanna Wolf and Dr. Jenelle Anthony on 15 March. We also added a recording of our last event, “An Introduction to Chronic Pain in the Military and the Role of Behavioral Health Providers” by Dr. Diana Dolan.
We’ve got two more online events coming up soon as well. On 8 March, we’ll be holding a training on Cognitive Processing Therapy in Group (CPT-G) via Adobe Connect. Then on 23-24 March there will be a Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) training in Second Life. For a listing of all of our upcoming event, please visit our training calendar here.
In the CDP Blog this week, Dr. Lisa French took a look at the recently released 2014 Department of Defense Suicide Event Report (DoDSER). This report provides information on fatal and nonfatal suicide events for U.S. Service members. Dr. French examines these number and the trends they show. The Guest Perspective blog, Lost Heroes, was by Dr. Suzanne Best, who talked about her work with Veterans Courts. She also discussed the symptoms of PSTD and TBI that may cause many Veterans to end up in the criminal justice system. Also, don’t forget to check out the Research Update as usual, it’s got all the latest news, articles, and useful links related to deployment psychology.
That’s all for this time around. Enjoy the weekend and we’ll see you on Monday with a new entry in our “By the Numbers” feature!
