CDP News: 8 March 2019
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. March is well underway and there’s lots to talk about.
Make sure you join us on Wednesday afternoon when we will hold March’s CDP Presents webinar, "The Basics of Sleep: What Every Provider Needs to Know". This will introduce behavioral health and other providers, with no or minimal prior exposure to the study of sleep science, to the basics of sleep theories, physiology and regulation, as well as introduce an overview of sleep-related diagnoses in the DSM-5 with the premise that the range of sleep disorders is broad and not limited to sleep inability. Participants in these webinars who register, attend, and complete a post-training survey/evaluation will be eligible to receive one free CE. Registration is also available for April’s CDP Presents “Families OverComing Under Stress (FOCUS) - A Family Resilience Model” and May’s “Prevention and Treatment of Remote Combat Stress”. Make sure you take a look at the CE details for these events, as they're a bit different from those in previous iterations.
Speaking of events in March, registration is available for Online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) via Zoom, which will be held on 28-29 March. You can also sign up for April’s Online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) via Zoom on 9-10 April. Registration for each of these events $45 and comes with 13.5 CEs. Please note, as with the CDP Presents webinars, the CE policy for these events have been updated.
A little bit further down the road, due to the demand from the last iteration, on 14 May we will be presenting all four modules in our Couples Webinar Series, Military-Connected Couples: Elements of the Assessment Process, Military-Connected Couples: Evidence-Based Approaches to Treatment, Military-Connected Couples: An Intervention Model for Treating Infidelity, and Intimate Partner Violence: An Overview of Assessment and Response with Military-Connected Clients. Each of these courses will run two hours and come with two CEs. Participants can sign up for the modules individually or for a bundle of all four. Registration for these webinars will open next week. For more information on any of the modules, visit the Couples Webinar Series page here.
Over on the CDP blog, Dr. Jenny Phillips begins a series on Traumatic Brain Injuries. This week’s topic is “Military Children and Traumatic Brain Injury – Books to Help Parents.” Dr. Phillps takes a look at a few great books which parents can use to help explain TBIs to children. Also, don't forget to check out this week's Research Update. As always, it's packed with the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.
That’s it for this edition of CDP News! We’ll see you on Monday with another entry in our “By the Numbers” column. In the meantime, make sure that you’re keeping up with the CDP by following us on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and/or joining our mailing list to receive CDP’s monthly email digest!
