November 16, 2012: CDP News
As we wrap up another week, it’s time for a round-up of the latest happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology in our latest CDP News entry. The biggest thing to announce is the release of two new additions to our online learning catalog. This week marked the launch of our courses on “Identification, Prevention, and Treatment of Suicidal Behavior for Service Members and Veterans” and“Depression in Service Members and Veterans”. As with all of our self-paced, online classes, these are available to take for free or for a fee with continuing education credits. Check out these new topics as well as our many existing ones in the Online Courses section of our website!
In addition to the online world, we’ve also been busy out in the real world. Last week, Dr. Paula Domenici brought our UC4 course to the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Thanks to her and all of the participants for another successful training event.
Speaking of our training events, next week is the last full week to register for our week-long course, “Addressing the Psychological Needs of Warriors and the Families” to be held Dec. 3-7 in Blacksburg, VA. Registration will be closing on Nov. 26, so if you’re interested sign up soon!
The Purdue Exponent has a nice article online describing Indiana’s STAR program, which is an effort to train up more civilian behavioral health providers to treat military veterans. The CDP is quite involved in this program, so it’s nice to see it getting some of the attention it deserves.
If you missed them, two great things to catch up on from this week’s blog were Dr. Holly O’Reilly’s review of the recently published book,“Assessment and Treatment Planning for PTSD” and the even larger than usual Research Update, featuring a wide array of useful info compiled by our in-house librarian, Shirl Kennedy.
That’s it for this week. Be sure to check us out on Monday for a new “By the Numbers” column. Have a great weekend everyone!
