CDP News: 26 July 2019

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. July is coming to an end already, but we've got lots on the horizon.

On Tuesday and Wednesday next week, we'll be holding our next online Evidence-Based Psychotherapy (EBP) training, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). Our online EBPs are filling up fast recently. Registration for Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) training on 21-22 August and the Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) training on 25-26 September are both at capacity. Registration is still available the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP) via Second Life on 10-11 September. We'll be adding more and more events to our upcoming training calendar soon, including several events into 2020. Make sure you sign up for our monthly email digest by completing this form

Registration will be opening next week for the online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) training on 29-30 October. As mentioned above, our online EBPs have been filling up quick, so if you're interested in attending, we suggest signing up as soon as you can.

Speaking of October events, the next round of our Couples Webinar Series will be held  from 3 to 5 p.m. every Thursday in October. The  webinars are specially designed to support clinicians who provide couples counseling to a military-related population. The courses currently offered are: Military-Connected Couples: Elements of the Assessment Process, Military-Connected Couples: Evidence-Based Approaches to Treatment, Military-Connected Couples: An Intervention Model for Treating Infidelity, and Intimate Partner Violence: An Overview of Assessment and Response with Military-Connected Clients. Each course is two hours long and incorporates research, best clinical practices and interactive activities. To register or for more details, visit the CWS page by clicking here

Registration is also available for the next two of our monthly CDP Presents webinars. The next session will be from noon to 1:30 Eastern on 21 August, "Human Performance Optimization: A Paradigm Shift to Improve Mental Health Care of Service Members." This 90-minute webinar will present an overview of Human Performance Optimization and its underpinnings, alongside case examples across the full spectrum of mental health care. You can also sign up for "Guns and Suicide - What Do We Know and What Can We Do?" to be held on 12 September.

One of the most common questions we get during any of our EBP training events is "But what about 'fill-in-the-blank alternative intervention'?" In this week's Staff Perspective "Four Questions to Ask About Complementary and Alternative Interventions for Mental Health Conidtions," Dr. Carin Lekowitz address those questions. She provides a framework to analyze and evaluate these complementary interventions. Also, don't forget to check out this week's Research Update. As always, it's packed with the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.

With that we're going to bring this week's edition of CDP News to a close. Thanks for joining us and, as always, if there's anything else you'd like to see covered, just let us know. See you on Monday for a new "By the Numbers"!
