CDP News: Apr. 3, 2015
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Now that spring is here, things are only going to get busier for us here. We’ve got plenty of upcoming events and news to talk about, so let’s get started!
Today is the second day of our two-day online Cognitive Processing Therapy delivered via Second Life. It’s going very well and we have participants from across the U.S. and even some connecting from other countries! This highlights the value of our online training and why we’re so excited to do them. CPT is one of our most requested training events, but due to staff and travel budget limitations, we can only offer a few sessions. We can’t possibly meet the need with in-person training, but online we’re able to reach many more providers and have many more events. Due to the high demand for CPT training, we’re already trying to schedule our next online training event. If you’d like to be notified when registration for this event begins, you can sign up for our online events mailing list here. Once you’re signed up, you’ll automatically be emailed when we open registration for upcoming online training events.
Speaking of online events, next Wednesday, 8 April, we will be holding our quarterly webinar. This time around, Dr. Diana Dolan will be providing an overview of the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale for DSM-5 (CAPS-5). Participants will leave with an understanding of the benefits and importance of formal, structured assessment in determination of a PTSD diagnosis. While we are unable to accept any addition participants at the live event, we will be posting a recording of the event shortly afterward for those interested in viewing the presentation. Visit our Quarterly Webinar section for a list of upcoming topics!
As much as we like our online events, we’re not reducing our face-to-face events either! We’re finalizing the details for our upcoming Great Lakes Regional 1-Week Civilian Training. This one will be held in Minneapolis, MN 15-19 June. Registration for this event is scheduled to begin in the next couple of weeks. You can sign up here If you would like to be notified via email when we open registration to the public.
This week we took the University Counseling Center Core Competency (UC4) program to West Point, NY for the ACCA Northeast Regional Conference. Next Wednesday we’re off to Madison, IN for another training event as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers program.
Make sure to take a few minutes to check out this week’s Research Update on the CDP’s Blog. It’s got all the latest news, articles and plenty of useful links related to deployment psychology.
Finally, we’d like to announce that we’ve made some significant improvements to the four-module Military Culture: Core Competencies for Healthcare Professionals. This self-paced online course is designed to help providers gain an understanding of the importance of and breadth of military culture. Each of the four modules in the course is eligible for two CEU credits upon completion of the final exam. Participants can now save their progress through the modules and should have a more streamlined process for receiving the CEU credits. It’s a great course and we highly recommend it for everyone interested in learning more about the military and its unique culture.
That’s it for this time around. Enjoy the weekend everyone and join us back here next week for a new entry in our By the Numbers column!
