CDP News: May 9, 2014
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. This was a busy week, as most of them have been lately! The biggest event was the Prolonged Exposure Therapy Training event we held via Second Life. As far as we're aware, it was the first PE training event in Second Life for continuing education credits. On Thursday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dr. Kevin Holloway and Dr. Kelly Chrestman presented the PE training for a group of attendees. The event followed the same program as our face-to-face training events, including showing videos, slides and breakout sessions for participant role-play activities.
It was a learning experience for everyone, both the participants and the presenters. Thursday went very well and, as of this writing, Friday is off to a great start! We're looking forward to seeing the results of the post-training survey, so we can look to make the online events even better. This is the third online training we've held and they've been very successful, so we're planning on adding more of these events to our training calendar in the future. The next event we're going to have will be a Cognitive Processing Therapy event on 10-11 July. We'll be posting additional details on that event, as well as registration information in the near future. So if you're interested in attending, keep an eye on our training calendar! We're looking into other options as well, so if there are specific training types that you would be interested in, please let us know. We'll see if we can incorporate that into our upcoming schedule of online training sessions.
This week was also the second week of our Topics in Deployment Psychology course. The eight days of training kept us busy, especially since we were running and preparing for several other training events at the same time. We've got a little while to catch our breath before the next session over the summer.
Speaking of other training events, we were also helping to run two separate courses as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers program. We presented in Michigan, as well as in Indiana. For more information about the Star program, check out the program's page here. CDP Deputy Director, Dr. Bill Brim also presented on Military Culture to the APA in New York City.
CDP trainers are going to be all over next week as well. The University Counseling Center Core Competency program is running multiple events. On Wednesday, we'll be visiting the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, MA. Then on Wednesday and Thursday, we'll be headed to Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL for a two-day training session in Prolonged Exposure Therapy. For more information about our UC4 program, please visit the page here.
Finally, we've got three weeks left to register for the 1-week regional training event in St. Louis, MO. 9-13 June. If you're interested in attending, sign up today! It's a great opportunity to receive extensive, high-quality training from CDP staffers on a variety of topics. For more details on the event, click here.
That's it for this time around. Have a great weekend everyone as we'll see you back here next week for a new "By the Numbers"
