CDP News: Oct. 9, 2015

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. Everyone is getting ready for the holiday weekend, but we’ve got plenty to talk about before we get there.

Even though it’s a short week, we’ve got multiple events scheduled next week. On Wednesday and Thursday, we’ll be down in Augusta, GA to provide training as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers Program. This multi-state initiative is a tier-based continuing education program designed to provide up-to-date, no cost workshops and training based on the unique needs of the military community. To find out more about this program, please visit the SBHP program page on our website here.

As part of our efforts to continue to expand our live online training offerings, on Thursday and Friday we’ll be holding a training on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) via Second Life. This training will cover the fundamentals of CBT-D with regards to working with Service members and Veterans. The course will also include 13.5 CEs. If you’re interested, sign up quick, as registration closes at the end of the day today. However, if you can’t make it to the CBT-D training, we will also be holding an online event covering Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia on 5-6 November.

Also in the online arena, we’ll be holding our next monthly CDP Presents webinar on Wednesday, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. EDT. The topic will be “Behavioral Health Concerns in Military Connected Patients: An Overview for Primary Care Providers.” This webinar will also include one free CE or CME for participants. For more information, visit the CDP Presents section of our website.

Speaking of CDP Presents, that’s the topic of this week’s Staff Perspective in the CDP blog, “CDP Presents the New ‘CDP Presents’ section”. Chris Adams writes about our monthly webinar series, as well as the new section of our website that contains recorded version of our previous months’ presentations. Also, don’t forget to take a few minutes to read this week’s Research Update on the CDP’s Blog. It’s got all the latest news, articles and plenty of useful links related to deployment psychology.

There’s only one more week to register for our next Regional Civilian One-Week Training! It’s going to be held in the Albany, NY-metro area from 26-30 October. Registration for the event is $95 and includes up to 34 CE credits.  This is a great opportunity to receive a ton of high-quality training on numerous subjects from CDP staff. If you can’t make it to this one, but would like to be emailed when registration for future Regional One-Week Civilian Training opportunities, please complete the form here.

That’s all for now. We hope everyone enjoys the holiday weekend! Be sure and come back next week for more happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology.
