CDP News: 29 March 2019
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We're saying good-bye to March and welcoming in April and several new events.
On Thursday and Friday, we held a training on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) via Zoom. It was a sizable crowd and the training went quite well overall. Our next online event will be the Online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) via Zoom on 9-10 April. We're getting close to capacity on this one and we'll be closing registration on Tuesday. So if you'd like to attend, sign up soon! Registration is $45 and comes with 13.5 CEs. Please note, the CE policy for this event, as it is a little different than our usual events.
Speaking of upcoming online events, sign-ups are also available for the Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) on 9-10 May and the Assessing Military Clients for Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder on 11 June. Both events will be held in Zoom. On Tuesday, registration will begin for June's online Prolonged Exposure Therapy Training (PE) via Second Life.
Also coming up in May, we'll present the next iteration of the Couples Webinar Series. We're going to be trying a new format this time around. Instead of holding them weekly, on 14 May we will be presenting all four modules, Military-Connected Couples: Elements of the Assessment Process, Military-Connected Couples: Evidence-Based Approaches to Treatment, Military-Connected Couples: An Intervention Model for Treating Infidelity, and Intimate Partner Violence: An Overview of Assessment and Response with Military-Connected Clients. Each of these courses will run two hours and come with two CEs. Participants can sign up for the modules individually for $18 or for a bundle of all four for $60. All of the modules sold out during our last iteration in February, so if you're interested, don't wait to register! For more information, you can visit our Couples Webinar Series page here.
Lastly, on the training front, don't forget about our monthly CDP Presents webinar series. The next session will be "Families OverComing Under Stress (FOCUS) - A Family Resilience Model" on 24 April. This webinar will describe the Families OverComing Under Stress (FOCUS), a brief, evidence-based, family intervention designed to enhance resilience and mitigate psychological distress in active duty military and Veteran families, children, and couples. May's CDP Presents "Prevention and Treatment of Remote Combat Stress" is also available for sign-ups as well.
In this week's Staff Perspective column, Dr. Jenna Ermold talks with Dr. Sonya Norman and Todd McKee about CDP's collaboration with the National Center for PTSD to offer free training in Prolonged Exposure Therapy to providers in the community around the country. It's a great opportunity to receive face-to-face training in PE for providers who are interested in working with Veterans. We highly recommend taking advantage of this program if you can make it to one of the upcoming traiing sites. Also, don't forget to check out this week's Research Update. As always, it's packed with the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.
That’s it for this edition of CDP News! We’ll see you on Monday with another entry in our “By the Numbers” column. We hope everyone has a great weekend!
